Alright, my hair-loving peeps, let's dive into the juicy deets on how to give your precious strands the tender loving care they deserve.
I had no idea hair washing was so complicated...for real. Unitil I started researching it and GUESS WHAT? I was doing all the things wrong.
Washing your hair might seem like a no-brainer, but trust me, there's an art to it.
In this blog post, I am here to set you straight.
-
Temperature Matters - Picture this: Goldilocks testing the water, but this time it's for your hair. You want it just right, baby! Lukewarm water is where it's at, my friends. It opens up those hair cuticles, letting all the good stuff seep in. But hold up, hot water lovers! Steer clear of the boiling lava-like temps. They will strip away your precious natural oils.

Pre-Rinse like a Pro: Before you get down and dirty with the shampoo, give your hair a quick rinse. It's like the pre-game warm-up. This pre-rinse helps kick dirt and product buildup to the curb, making way for your shampoo to work its magic.
-
Wash the SCALP and the SCALP only: Time to unleash that shampoo power! Here's the deal: a little goes a long way. You don't need a bucketload of the stuff. Start with a dollop the size of a quarter and work it into a lather in your hands. Then, get those fingers massaging your scalp in those sweet, sweet circular motions. Let the suds do their thing and drop where they drip. You do NOT need to wash the hair cuticle. This can dry out your hair. The soap that lathers up and drips down is plenty to clean the hair. Don't forget...shampoo times 2. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. And no...the first shampoo generally isn't super bubbly. That is NORMAL. Your shampoo should be chosen for your primary SCALP concern - dry scalp, oily scalp, flaky scalp, lack of density, etc.
-
Condition the ends ONLY: It's time to give your hair some extra love with that magical conditioner. Squeeze out a generous amount and focus on the mid-lengths and ends. . Use this time to belt out your favorite shower ballad or contemplate the meaning of life -- I shave my legs and let the good stuff soak in. Your conditioner should be chosen based on your HAIR's primary concern...i.e. dry ends, frizzy hair, curls, etc.
-
End with a Cool Water Blast: As you wrap up your shower, it's time to polar bear plunge with a cool water rinse. Yep, switch that faucet to the cool side and give your hair a refreshing chill session. This step seals in all the goodness and leaving your hair looking glossy and fabulous. Plus, it's like a wake-up call for your scalp, boosting circulation and promoting healthy hair growth. A cold rinse is critical in sealing the cuticle around your conditioner.
That's it! You are now armed with the knowledge of how to wash your hair like a pro. Embrace the artistry, customize it to your hair's unique needs, and experiment with different products until you find the perfect match.
Are you rotating your shampoo and conditioner? Your hair has different needs every time of year...don't be afraid to mix it up. You might just find the secret sauce that takes your hair from good to FANTASTIC.
Cheers to more good hair days. xo
